Professor of English at the University of Detroit Mercy, on the corner of Six Mile and Livernois in west Detroit. In 2010, I served as Visiting Scholar and Artist at the Critical Media Lab, University of Waterloo, Canada. Books include Ramones (from the 33 1/3 series published by Bloomsbury), A Cultural Dictionary of Punk, 1974-1982 (Bloomsbury) and Cinema in the Digital Age (Columbia University Press). 10/40/70: Constraint as Liberation in the Era of Digital Film Theory was published by Zer0 Books in 2014.

My novel The Absolution of Roberto Acestes Laing was published by Two Dollar Radio in 2014, and the lo-fi sci-fi love story film I directed, The Removals, premiered at The Wexner Center for the Arts in 2016 from the film production wing of Two Dollar Radio.

Essays and assorted provocations have appeared in The Believer, The Oxford American, The Quietus, BOMB Magazine, 3:AM Magazine, Los Angeles Review of Books, The Rumpus, n+1 Film Review, and Filmmaker Magazine.
